Remapping Global Politics - History's Revenge and Future Shock (Hardcover): Yale H. Ferguson, Richard W. Mansbach Remapping Global Politics - History's Revenge and Future Shock (Hardcover)
Yale H. Ferguson, Richard W. Mansbach
R3,124 Discovery Miles 31 240 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book seeks to redraw our mental maps of global politics and to explain the shifting and accelerating forces that are shaping those maps. The authors build on the concept of 'post-internationalism', focusing primarily on 'political space' and 'political identity' which, they argue, are the new frontiers of global political theory. They suggest that the state is losing capacity, legitimacy and authority to remain the primary actor in world affairs and is giving way to a more complex post-international universe characterized by diverse and overlapping polities. This book is the result of the authors' long-standing joint research into the nature and dynamics of global politics, a collaboration that has spanned over three decades. It makes an important contribution to the literatures on globalization and the future of international relations theory.

Foreign Policy Issues for America - The Trump Years (Hardcover): Richard W. Mansbach, James M. McCormick Foreign Policy Issues for America - The Trump Years (Hardcover)
Richard W. Mansbach, James M. McCormick
R3,998 Discovery Miles 39 980 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

As America's first president never to have served in government or the military, Donald Trump entered the White House with an unformed foreign policy position. Yet he was confronted by a wide range of developing issues; the rise of China, Russian-United States relations, the resurgence of nationalism in Europe, U.S. Foreign Policy in Latin America, environmental challenges, terrorism, security challenges of failing states, cyber security threats, and challenges in international political economy. This volume focuses on these sensitive foreign policy issues that determine the prospects for American decline or continued hegemony. Contributions are divided into 'regional' and 'functional' issues, exploring the nature and significance of the challenge, the previous response, and President Trump's policies and their consequences. Topics have been selected to address political, military, economic, and social factors in global politics and the book will appeal to undergraduates and scholars of U.S. foreign policy at all levels.

Richard W. Mansbach, Yale H. Ferguson
R2,501 Discovery Miles 25 010 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book describes the global spread of nationalist-populism by rightwing and racist political parties; their impact on political, economic, and sociocultural globalization; and the corrosive impact of this ideology on the global liberal order that emerged after World War II under United States leadership. The global liberal order is a system of norms including peace and security, democracy, human rights, free trade, financial stability and support for a broad range of international governmental organizations and treaties fostering interstate and transnational cooperation to advance those norms and resolve collective problems. Examples of these organizations are the United Nations, European Union, NATO, World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the Paris Climate Accord. Suitable for interested scholars and general readers as well as a classroom text.

International Governance, Regimes, and Globalization - Case Studies from Beijing and Taipei (Hardcover): Peter Kien-Hong Yu,... International Governance, Regimes, and Globalization - Case Studies from Beijing and Taipei (Hardcover)
Peter Kien-Hong Yu, Emily W. Chow, Shawn S. F. Kao; Contributions by W. Emily Chow, Chiang Chun-Chi, …
R3,588 Discovery Miles 35 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the this collection, International Governance, Regimes, and Globalization, the writers explore international relations and globalization by using specific examples from Beijing and Taipei. In December 1949, when China was politically divided the People's Republic of China (PRC) central government was in control of most resources, tangible and intangible. For that reason, our unit of analysis has to be the state, meaning a government or a politically organized body. With the rise of civil society at both national and international levels, applying the international/global governance theory should be closer to reality, because we have to look at both the state and non-state-sponsored dimensions, which are more complex and complicated. Indeed, international/global governance could become a new school of thought and will continue to expand as academics explore. For example, neo-liberalism primarily focuses on market and contract. When people buy and sell something, they are in a market. In other words, politics is the superstructure of economics or as Karl Marx said what prevails in economy will ultimately prevail in politics. In a sense, subscribers to this school of thought are Marxian. However, the study of international/global governance embraces the non-state sponsored dimension. Hence, it is broader than that of the neo-liberalism school of thought.

Global Politics in a Changing World, International Edition blends conceptual writings on international relations with current events coverage from journalistic sources. Case materials in this reader are drawn from all major geographic regions in order to emphasize the global nature of post-Cold War issues. Each chapter approaches the key topics first from a scholarly/theoretical perspective, then follows with readings that present a news/current events context. The readings provide a stimulus for informed debate and discussion and encourage students to view daily events as part of a larger process of change. This unique reader goes beyond the traditional concept of international relations, defined simply as interactions between states. Covering all players in the modern global political scene, topics in the text range from international companies and intergovernmental organizations to traditional states and terrorist organizations. To discuss these varied influences in world politics, the authors have carefully selected a mix of readings that includes journal articles on current events and classic discussions of international relations.
